Alternative Energy
Renewable and alternative energy grew significantly in production over the past year, with the U.S. overtaking Germany as the largest wind energy producer in the world. According to the American Wind Energy Association, over 21,000 megawatts of energy production were in operation as of September, 2008 - that's enough to power 5.5 million homes.
Although the explosive growth in the alternative energy sector has been slowed by the global financial crisis, progress continues around the world. Stories from the last week:
